Resources

The Alvin H. Baum Family Fund is engaged with partners in the Chicagoland area to support nonprofits and community organizations. Below is resource information for a number of our partners:

Chicago Furniture Bank

The Chicago Furniture Bank collects donations of gently used furniture and household goods and distributes them to families and individuals transitioning into supportive housing. Together with their partner organizations, the Furniture Bank helps Chicagoans in need by providing complete furnishing packages that turn empty spaces into comfortable homes.

Mission Sustainability Initiative

If your organization is considering a long-term or permanent partnership, such as a co-location, back office collaboration, programmatic alliance, joint venture, merger, or other strategic restructuring, please contact the Mission Sustainability Initiative (MSI).

The Alvin H. Baum Family Fund proudly supports the MSI, a program of Forefront. The MSI creates a neutral space to help Chicago area nonprofits evaluate the possible benefits of a strategic restructuring, get the help they need to design their new organization, negotiate and implement their partnership, and access funding to help support the process.

The MSI provides:

  • Confidential, friendly, and helpful conversations with nonprofits thinking about strategic restructuring, with advice on accessing information and assistance
  • A repository of toolkits, research, and best practices along with educational events
  • Referrals to pro bono legal assistance and experienced paid consultants specializing in nonprofit strategic partnerships
  • Grants (on a sliding scale from $5,000 to $75,000) for one-time, out-of-pocket costs incurred in assessing organizational readiness for, exploring, or implementing a strategic collaboration
